The Dive…
Start with basics and keep making them right on the way of your learning path! I am no professional photographer or expert but I started my hobby from the very basic set of equipment like from Samsung’s point & shoot camera.
Well! it has to start from something or the other. If I remember correctly, it was 2012 Diwali season. My father is already a photography enthusiast and he already owns couple of camera gears from Yashica to Minolta. So we were looking for a nice camera for our family photographs, travel and other occasions. My Father gave the task to finalize the camera this time to me. I researched on internet about the cameras suitable for family road trips, vacations and festival events. Initially finalized Nikon D3500.
Went to Croma store ( famous electronics store in my country) to buy 3500. But the sales guy their suggested me to go for Sony SLT A58 instead. As I was not having any prior experience with DSLRs, I was convinced with the comparison points which he stated. So then it was it…my first DSLR ( or SLT in fact) purchase completed. Even after this purchase I kept looking for articles on comparisons between Sony A58 and Nikon D3500, just to justify myself that I have made a wise decision. This after-purchase research familiarized me with my camera more and more. And I was falling in love with it day by day.
The kit came with SLT A58 body and DT 18-55 F3.5-F5.6 SAMII Kit lens. I was all the way drooling over this piece of tech. I was so proud of this purchase of mine that I called my Girlfriend ( now wife :)) to meet me. I didn’t even know how to take images from it and kept on shooting on Smart Auto mode ( mode in which camera sets all the settings for the scene). I was just showering shutter clicks on everything ranging from the sky to trees, clouds, people, flowers, insects, plants…anything you name it. This was the camera which made me dive into the rabbit hole of photography and camera gears.
Now for starters, this camera features and EVF(Electronic View Finder). It means that this camera has a small screen inside the view finder. this screen shows the live image from sensor. Unlike traditional DSLRs, camera shutter remains open. For me it was a first of its kind. Nowadays all the mirrorless has this feature. All the other details you can find about this camera is in below link :
For Video fans, it supports AVCHD format. You can record unto full HD on this camera. But recording videos is not my type of fetish so I was mainly shooting photos from this beauty.
I started reading and watching many YouTube videos about photography and exposure triangle. and slowly I was drawing myself towards more choice of lenses which I will be sharing with you in my next blog. The reason why I chose these lenses and some sample shots from them.
